Is it Really Within Your Control?

We all know stress can get the best of us.

Determining if something is within your control can be challenging (to say the least).

Is there something you can do about it? Or not?

The four scenarios that can play out:

You Have Control and You Take Action:
If you determine that there is something you can do about your circumstances, and you take action, you become the master of your own fate. You learn through experience, both what to do and not to do, going forward. You become a master. This builds your confidence, faith and a positive outlook moving forward.

You Don’t Have Control and Take Action:
When you try to control something that is out of your grasp, you can become frustrated, controlling and angry. You become a Type A control freak, trying to control everything because you can’t control something that is important to you, but not attainable.

When You Have Control and Don’t Take Action:
When you don’t take action, although you have control due to fear, insecurity or a passive outlook, you can feel like a failure. This is when depression can set in, as you feel helpless and hopeless.

When You Don’t Have Control and Don’t Take Action:
You find peace, and you are able to focus on what you can control.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself:
Is this within my place?
Is this within my power?
Is this within my circumstances?

A few ways to cope with stress, when you are feeling out of control:

Visualize:
This is a really powerful tool in acquiring your goals. Imagine yourself doing something with ease and confidence. This will give you a framework of how to move forward in a way that represents you, and is in alignment with your authentic self. It is proactive, as opposed to reactive. You can respond vs. react!

Track:
Ask yourself, "has this happened in the past?" Was there something similar that you can lean into?  What did you acquire, learn, grow from? What more do you have to learn? What did you do that helped you?

Tackle Worst Case Scenario:
What is the worst case scenario? Determine how you will handle it, using visualization. And then determine how you will cope in the aftermath.

Talk To a Loved One:
As we are all connected to one another, talking with a trusted confidant will give you support, encouragement and a sense of being cared for.

And in the meantime, a prayer to meditate on:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
