Steve Jobs gave a commencement speech to Stanford University in 2005. In his speech, he recounted his life and success, and how he was able to connect the dots in hindsight. All of his decisions lead to his life path which made a significant impact on our everyday lives. The outcomes of his decisions were unknown to him at the time.
One notable fact is that Steve Jobs decided to audit and learn calligraphy after he dropped out of college. This single decision lead to Apple Computers offering many different fonts and becoming the front runner in the creative space of computers. Apple computers became known as the computer for artists and creatives, leading to the massive success of computers, i-pads, and i-phones.
As many of us are going through a transition, and not knowing the direction that things are going to take us, it can be scary. Fear can keep us in unhealthy lock holds.
Oftentimes, we get held back from the very people in our lives in which we interact with the most. People may hold us back because of their own fears and imposing them on us. If we internalize these fears, we become stuck. We can all learn from Steve Jobs experience in how to be brave.
Steps to move forward with confidence:
Have faith.
Believing in a bigger picture, and recognizing how opportunities can be a gateway helps us move out of stagnation. It can take us on the road less traveled, and allow us to live out a bigger and more fulfilling life. Trusting a higher power, whether it is the universe, God, or spirit guides, will help keep us on our path. We can stop surviving and being part of “the system,” and step into our Spiritual Sovereignty.
Attitude of curiosity.
Taking on the attitude of being curious, as opposed to frightened and self conscious, takes us away from anxiety and being stuck. It gives us space to take away unrealistic expectations we put on a situation. We see each moment in our lives as a step to something bigger in our story.
Leaning into intuition.
Using our inner guide, our internal GPS, is trusting ourselves and living out our destiny. If we have a feeling about something, we should go with the feeling. We can always re-direct. Being adaptable helps us take the bumps along the way in stride.
And finally, reflect.
Journal to get out of your head, and always feel you should be “doing something.” This gives us space to reflect. If you don’t like journaling, keep a spreadsheet, write poetry, create music. Use your creative powers to reflect. And when you are ready to take action, use your creative powers to take action.
In summary, do not be afraid. Go with life knowing you don’t know everything, or where you will land. Do so with curiosity and faith, listen to the universe, and always use your own spirit to guide you.
